Platform ecosystems play a strategic role in all types of businesses. They are drivers of innovation and growth. The entry of new players changes traditional markets and creates new business models. Intensive dialogues between traditional and new players as well as business and politics are necessary to exploit the full potential of platforms.

The working group “Ecosystem and Platforms” established by the German digital association Bitkom offers a forum for this exchange. Since 2018, Caruso supports the working group to define the notion of a digital platform and its key characteristics. About 30 experts from the member companies contribute their know-how about different platform business models including Apple, Facebook, IBM, SAP, Siemens and our friends from Fraunhofer IESE. Caruso regularly participates in networking and content activities and uses the Bitkom ecosystem to propagate the notion of an open, neutral data and service platform.

Bitkom represents more than 2,500 companies of the digital economy. Their members offer software, telecommunications and internet services, produce hardware and consumer electronics, operate in the digital media sector or are in other ways affiliated with the digital economy. More and more companies across all sectors are joining Bitkom as they digitise their business models.

We are also represented in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA). Find out more in our next blogpost!
